A console only sequel to the arcade game.
This sequel brings with it many improvements over the original. Now you have the choice of three SD Mobile Suits for your character, you can attack whilst crouched, you keep a stock of additional weapons and most importantly you can face the opposite direction during shoot-em-up stages.
Unfortunately Bandai forgot to improve the most important thing -the gameplay. It's just as dull and uneventful here as it was in the arcade, maybe more so. The two player mode has been preserved which brings slightly more enjoyment than solo play but that's not saying much.
As with the original the screen constantly scrolls with you and your optional partner clearing all the SD mechas in your path. Your mobile suit has a basic shot, the previously mentioned special weapons (which are lost if you take a hit) and you'll automatically swipe enemies with your laser sword if they get too close. The only other move you have is a reasonably handy double jump that can get you over the infrequently placed obstacles with ease.
The graphics are fine- well detailed sprites but fairly dull surroundings. Boss characters too are a bit of a yawn but it's all animated well.
In addition to the main game there is also a fairly pointless Vs mode. Playable in two player or against the CPU it's a single round battle of the large sprites. There may be a good number of mechas to choose from but with only a paltry two arenas it soon gets as dull as the main game.
