An excellent adventure game based on Yuzo (Blue Seed) Takada's characters.

The intro is long and very atmospheric, the music is extremely close to that of the OAV series. You play Yakumo as he runs around the grimy, neon lit, streets of Hong Kong solving puzzles, talking to people and collecting items.

When you feel you need to save just give Ling Ling a call at the Yogekisha Company HQ and she'll do it for you.

Just like everything else the graphics are great. The backdrops are highly detailed and help create a fitting mood for the levels. Also the sprite animation is top notch. The motion is close to games like 'Flashback' and 'Prince of Persia' in terms of smoothness.

Along the way you will encounter enemy creatures. You must do battle with them in an RPG style turn basis. As Yakumo you can select to attack them with any of the demons at your command (each with their own animation to show it's attack) or, if you run out of TP, with your Kung Fu skills.

The story can take different turns depending on the choices you make meaning lots of different levels and endings.

Now for the serious part. Yes 3X3 Eyes is entirely in Japanese but this doesn't make it impossible to play by any means. In fact it is very easy to figure it out with the minimum of fuss or even the help of an FAQ guide. The only thing that might hold you back are some of the strange puzzles.

To sum up 3X3 Eyes is one of the best (if not the best) Anime games I've played. Unlike many of it's contemporaries there has been a lot of effort put in to make this a decent game in it's own right and not just a standard license.

Even if you've never seen the series or read the Manga you'll still love it.
